Earning management is good or not? Introdcution This essay is to examine whether earning management is it good or bad. Though there is so many debate about whether it should be accepted to be good rather than bad, however, this essay will explain the both side of earnings management. Earnings management reduces the quality of financial reporting, it can interfere with the resource allocation in the economy and can bring adverse consequences to the financial market. This increase in gasoline prices surprisingly did not have as much of an impact as speculators feared, other than peoples outlook on the situation. There were some effects. Though mostly food price centered. The three main goods that saw a notable impact were the prices of bananas, rice and sugar (Levitate 2006). The primary reason for the increase in the rice and sugar prices is because the Louisiana Mississippi area is responsible for 85 percent of the sugar cane production, and 14 percent of the rice production in the United States (Levitate 2006). The drastic loss in production from that area was softened by short-run increases in the other producers of those crops. This ability to increase short-run production is a factor that contributes to the resiliency of free-market economies. Though the nationwide effects were not all that staggering the effects in New Orleans the months following Strain were devastating. With 80 percent of the city flooded, hundreds of thousands of people were forced to flee the city of New Orleans, many never to return again (Blackburn 2010). This drastic loss in population coupled with the destruction of approximately 200,000 homes and businesses led New Orleans and the surrounding areas into a dire economic situation. In the first few months after Strain, Louisiana lost 12 percent Of the states 214,000 jobs (Herman 2006). One result of the loss of jobs was a drastic raise in mortgage delinquency rates (Herman 2006). This inability to pay is more than likely a contributing actor to the very low rate of return from people who were forced to evacuate their homes by Strain. Those that did find the resolve to return to stay were in a desperate situation. New Orleans, whose primary industry is tourism, suffered great losses after the storm. The psychiatrist evaluating him found him seething with anger and ready to explode at any moment. Butch was also lonely and needed someone to love. Nevertheless, he was capable of explosive, homicidal behavior. He was labeled as having childhood schizophrenia, which psychiatrists at the time assigned to anyone hallucinating or claiming to hear voices. At age 14, Butch was sent to Rockland State Hospital. Butch became calmer there when he was removed from his parents’ troubles. A social worker discovered that his mother Marie was a prostitute and his father James, an alcoholic, was in the advanced stages of syphilis. (2) Differential Opportunity Theory People deprived of their basic needs such as food, water, shelter, safety, love, and self esteem will seek them any way they can get them. They may give up on their educational goals or not know about them. They fight because they know no other means of resolving conflict. After being beaten by his alcoholic father, Butch turned to crime to return to prison, a place where he would be safe, because he did not know how to escape legally. This theory fails to explain why other people in the same situation escape to live with other family members or turn to friends or some other source of safety other than commit a crime in order to return to prison. (3) Crime and Labeling Theory – Butch’s grandmother Frances has repeatedly told him he has the devil in him, like his father did. She really believed this. He is labeled at the Children’s Center when he begins to hear voices and hallucinate. He is sent to Wiltwyck, which is a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed boys, and he is given that label. He is labeled as paranoid, aggressive, and prone to violence. Once these labels are attached by professional diagnosticians, it is difficult to remove them. The labels themselves cannot explain Butch’s actions or why he hears voices and hallucinates. The labels describe what Butch says is happening. Example of Behavior #3: Butch tries to sell 150 pornographic pictures and their negatives to Dave Hurwitz in his pawnshop, called â€Å"Dave’s Tailor Shop†, in Milwaukee. Butch stole the pictures from his employer, the Evans Color Lab, which saw no reason to report the crime. Hurwitz told Butch to come back tomorrow, and he would pay him $50 for the pictures. The next morning, Butch confronts Dave, who denies all knowledge of the pictures. Butch sees his photos behind the case register and reaches around to reclaim them. Hurwitz starts pushing him out of the shop. Everything in Butch’s life comes together. Here is a man calling him a liar, trying to hustle HIM, and insulting him. Since he was a boy, he had learned that disrespect was the worst thing a man could do to you. He had been taught to use physical violence to meat that threat. The thought running through Butch’s mind was, â€Å"He is disrespecting me. † Butch goes wild with rage and grabs the long hunting knife from the sheath on his back. He stabs Hurwitz six times and a customer, William Locke, six times before he leaves, almost running over a witness at the door. Butch turns himself in, confesses to the police, never requests a lawyer, and receives life in prison, returning to the only safe place he knows. Discussion: (1) Heredity Study – We do not know if Butch’s genetics predisposed him to crime. There are no blood studies confirming the hereditary syphilis. There are many people with genetic abnormalities who do not become criminal. It is obvious that Butch has now learned he is safe in prison, and that the security there fits his needs. If genetics were involved, Butch’s male ancestors should exhibit the same behavior. The theory is not testable here. There is no way to ask Butch why he feels this way. It also does not explain his uncontrollable rage when the pawnbroker tries to avoid paying him. (2) Differential Opportunity Theory – Butch has access both to a job and to illegal means of making a living. He stole from his employer and continued his life of crime despite the better example and the trade he learned. Not all people with a trade and a job take advantage of their employers, even if their family male role models are criminals. (3) Crime and Labeling Theory – By now, Butch has been labeled by professionals as a young sociopath. This describes behavior but cannot stop it or predict it. This is a circular path. A person who is labeled as a sociopath will behave as one and the label will be confirmed. Sometimes no other reasons are sought for criminal behavior. The adult Butch has received no therapy or other treatment for any of his labeled behavior.

The specific problem or issue: Sewage and industrial plants situated near residential areas can produce unpleasant odors making it difficult to live there. Explain the problem: The sewage plants near residential areas can be a subject to the social and environmental problems if these facilities produce unpleasant odors. The causes of the odors are generally the inorganic and volatile organic compounds which result from bio filtration and from the sewer of industrial waste. There are different types of volatile organic compounds that are emitted as a result of bio filtration like 2-butanone, ÃŽ ±-pinene, tetrachloroethylene, dimethyl disulfide, ÃŽ ²-pinene, limonene, phenol and benzoic acid. One of the main culprits for the bad odor are sulphur compounds which are relatively less in concentration but play significant role in odor causing factors.[5] Explain how science is helping, or has helped, to solve the problem: Bad odor from sewage water is a major environmental issue worldwide. Bad odor from sewage water is an indicator of possible health risk therefore governments spend a lot of money on treating the sewage water and unpleasant odor. Science has played a major role in solving this problem biologically as well as chemically. Following are several methods to treat sewage water and odor from this water. Bio filtration Thermal Oxidation Chemical Thermal oxidation burns the odor causing compounds directly or indirectly. Bio filtration on the other hand oxidizes the odor causing compounds by using microbes. Microbes like Pseudomonas Putida that are used in this technique have been significant in treating sewage water and bad odor in an efficient, safe and inexpensive way. [4] How it works: Bio-filtration is quite an innovative technology to control pollutants. It helps to eliminate malodorous gas emissions and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of low concentrations. The most common design of a bio-filter is just an ordinary big box. Some of them can be very big, others can be quite small. A bio-filters main function is to bring microorganisms together with pollutants in an air stream. The bio-filter which has the breeding material for the microorganisms is placed inside the box. The â€Å"biofilm†, which is a layer of moisture where the microorganisms live, can be found around the particles of filter media. When the bio-filtration process takes place, the operators pump the polluted stream of air through the bio-filter, so that the filter media absorbs the pollutants. The bio-filter diffuses the contaminated gas and sends it onto the biofilm that absorbs it. The pollutants are then degraded by the microorganisms. The metabolic products of this process are carbon dioxide and water as well as the produced energy. The chemical formula of this process caused by oxidation is: Volatile Organic Pollutant + O2à ¯Ã†â€™Ã‚  CO2 + H2O + Heat + Microbial Biomass [3] Effectiveness of this technique: This technique is very efficient and it has plenty of advantages over the traditional methods of pollutants. First of all, one of the major conditions for traditional methods is high temperature, however when it comes to bio-filtration the technicians can use low temperatures, thus the whole process becomes cost effective, because there are no costs of combustion. Moreover it is safer than traditional methods because combustion is a dangerous process. Secondly, the maintenance cost of bio-filtration is much lower than traditional methods. According to a research conducted by Pinchin Environmental Group Canada, this technology is more than 95% efficient and environmentally friendly because the whole process can be done in an absolutely natural way. [1] Limitations of this technique: Even though this is an effective method it still has some limitations that restrict the implementation of this technique. First of all the bio-filtration is not able to remove all the organic substances from the water, for instance, those with low rates adsorption or degradation like chlorinated VOCs. Moreover this technique requires a large area to be installed in case it will need to treat a large amount of water. Finally, acclimation periods for populations of microbes may be as long as weeks or months, in particular for volatile organic compounds treatment. Applications of Bio-filtration: Even though the simple forms of bio-filters can be used by general public, the main uses are in the commercial areas. The following industries apply VOC: Chemical and petrochemical industry Synthetic resins Paint production Oil and gas industry Pharmaceutical industry Treatment of wastewater Remediation of Soil and Groundwater The following industries apply odor abatement applications: Treatment of sewage Slaughter houses Gelatin and glue plants Rendering Agricultural processing Tobacco, sugar and cocoa industry Fragrance and flavor Environmental, health and social impact: This technique is environmentally friendly because it does not damage the environment and it does not pollute the air or anything. Moreover, it has positive health impact on the society, because the process of bio-filtration does not involve any chemical substances and does not produce any harmful chemical by-products. Basically, the only by-products of the process of oxidation used in bio-filtration are water and carbon dioxide, which makes this technology extremely clean and safe. Conclusion: To conclude I want to say that the bio-filtration process is an effective process that is used frequently nowadays. The teacher must scheme smooth transitions of activities inside and outside the classroom throughout the day. †¢Strike a balance variety and challenge in students’ activities in the classroom. †¢There should be a variation of activities inside the classroom to avoid the students and even the teacher from being bored. †¢As classroom manager, be aware of all actions and activities in the classroom. †¢Even if the teacher is not around, she is still responsible for the students. That is why she must know the things that are happening inside the classroom and what her students are up to. †¢Resolve minor inattention and disruption before they became major disruptions. †¢Disruptions seem to be part in every classroom and in every lesson. No matter how big or small the hitch is, it could still give so much distraction not only to the teacher, but foremost to the students. Where and how they want to live is up to them if they have good financial resources. Aside from the cost of basic needs such as food and shelter, the amount of money that a person needs is determined by what kind of life they want to live. Very wealthy individuals can play by their own rules and not the rules of others; they can manipulate people, markets and governments to gain high profits and increase their status. On the other hand, money might be a nightmare for many children whose self-centered and neglectful parents just seek higher status and wealth. Material possessions such as an expensive house, a brand new automobile and a place on Forbes rich list are more important to them than childcare. Maybe their children are disappointed with them because they value wealth over wellbeing. Money and status are importan t to support a family but they should not be the highest priority. Prioritizing time to build a strong relationship with your kids will allow them to grow healthy and happy. Strong family support gives them better chances to thrive than others who are psychologically affected by their parents’ absence. According to clinical and developmental psychologist Diana Baumrind, parenting styles can be divided into four groups. Authoritarian parents are those who control, and are over strict and unresponsive. In opposition, permissive parents are those who allow their child to do whatever they want. Authoritative parents are those who are firm, but warm at the same time. Finally, uninvolved parents are irresponsible and neglectful parents. They demand nothing because they do not care about their children. 1 Among the four styles, the uninvolved parenting style is the one, which leads children to feel overwhelmed, and it puts their well-being at risk by failing to give a proper example. This is the result of a lack of care and interest because everything unrelated to an uninvolved parent’s family is more important than the healthy development of their child. When I became father, by â€Å"accident†, it took me one second to realize that my whole life was going to change instantly. Being a parent made me vulnerable and responsible in ways I had not been before. It has challenged me as never before and it took my time and attention away from other things, including myself. I always worked hard, both before and after my daughter was born, to provide a healthy life for her. This is still going on in the same way after 5 years. However, some parents take too much time to realize their new responsibility to their kids. Some never realize this responsibility. It seems to me they are trapped in a materialistic, profit driven world of consumerism which wants them to remain in the capitalist market. My recommendation to them is to keep a Post-it on their laptop with two helpful reminders: the first one being; â€Å"If You Don’t Prioritize Your Life, Someone Else Will† by Mahatma Gandhi, and the second one being; â€Å"If you are constantly running, you are handing your child`s heart and time over to someone who does not know or care about your child as much as you do†2 by Dr. Kevin Leman. Think about it! When a parent is handing their child over to anyone else, for example a daycare, they are missing many opportunities to â€Å"imprint positive values on your child`s character†3. A daycare provides a safe place to play and a good place for social interaction. It also provides a basis for education. However, daycare workers cannot do the most important: nurture a lifetime relationship between irresponsible parents and their children. Well, they might ask me why I drop my daughter off at the daycare all morning, and I might say, â€Å"I do the same as you but in a different way. The promotional strategy selected was based on the following factors (Kotler, 2003): Ability to reach the target market Visibility of the message Cost of the promotional strategy The target audience The main methods that will be used to promote the park are: Advertising: Advertisement creates awareness among local and foreign companies. Various advertisement messages will be prepared and sent through the different channels of communication. Sales promotions: Various sales promotions strategies will be used to market the new theme park (Kotler et al., 1998). These include: Free services: In order to penetrate the market, the park will offer free rides for everyone who has booked the tickets. All children who have booked tickets will be entitled to extra rides and this will motivate their parents to pay for them. This will be done for the first four months. Discounts: Frequent customers will be given a 20% discount so as to motivate them to keep coming. Any customer who comes to the park more than two times will be awarded this discount (Bowen Chen, 2001). Offering gifts: The visitors of the theme park will participate in a lottery so that they can win various prices such as free shirts, free rides, free accommodation for the family and other amusements. Public relations activities Public relation is one of the most important methods of linking the park with the community. In the recent past, most theme parks have been criticised as being dirty and causing pollution (Kotler Nancy, 2005). In line with this, the new theme park will participate in community clean up activities; carry out campaigns on pollution prevention and environmental protection (Stammerjohan et al., 2005). Communication Mix For this promotion, integrated marketing communication will be used. Traditional methods of marketing have been criticized as not be able to measure the impacts that the promotion strategies have (Kaser, 2012). Use of mass media: The new theme park will be marketed on the national television and this has the ability to reach million of viewers.
