These are viewed as everyday occurrences and people are not surprised when they happen. Social homogeneity in film making like making a film that follows a style that everyone is using and which is common to all; it is the mass recognition of the forms of a movie. On the other hand, when a piece of art or a film is produced in an exceptional style from the others, it surprises the audience and the production goes into history as a special and an original production. Originality is the only way that people can distinguish themselves from the crowd. Originality is related to the concept of the personality of a person, character or producer of a film; it is the unique pattern of thinking and behaving that brings out the individual aspects of the person and makes the person either likeable or not likeable by the audience. Films that ha ve originality and unique personality are popular than those that focus on social homogeneity and mass consumerism. The film à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"Gold Rush' by Charlie Chaplain is known to be a phenomenon film because of the originality of the ideas in the film and the personality of Charlie, who is the protagonist of the storyline. Most of the other films of the time had the same styles and themes of consumerism and an alpha male protagonist who only views the woman as a sexual object; a good example is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"An American Tragedy'. Charlie does not concentrate on the conventional setting of consumerism in most films; he brings a context of modernism in the movie. It reflects on the Donner Party Disaster; he also made the film in Klondike to capture the gold rush whereas everyone expected him to make it in California. He makes it different from the conventional styles used in the movies like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Å"The Gatsby'. The protagonist in this film is not brought out as a tough male who is a know-it-all. Charlie is a humble and ridiculous man and he relate to women in the movie in a different way than in most films. He is not imposing on the other characters in the film. He brings out a romantic relationship between Charlie and Georgia instead of the sexual and submissive story line of most movies. The use of pathos regarding the main actor of the film is an original work of Charlie. It brings an appeal to the viewers since the protagonist is shown to be in love and at times, brings out an empathetic feeling towards Charlie. In one part is the scene where his party flopped and where he looked sadly at merry makers from a distance and he appeared to be lonely and solitude takes a toll on him.
